Newborn photography, what happens during a session, Tooting photographer

Today I wanted to take the opportunity to explain a little bit more about what happens during a newborn photography session with me.

I have been doing newborn photography for the last 2 years and I have enjoyed being able to capture the tiny baby features in photographs.

Those moments are so unique and they last only a short amount of time, but having the photographs means you can go back to that time and remember the LOVE you first felt for your newborn baby again and again.

I am very aware of newborn safety and the fact that they are so tiny and so delicate and I take these sessions very seriously and will not put babies in uncomfortable or unsafe positions.

So in terms of how it works, I would like to explain:

  • When to enquire
  • How to book
  • How to prepare before the shoot
  • What happens during the shoot
  • What happens after the shoot

During the pregnancy from the 2nd trimester so around 25-30 weeks is a good time to get in touch and discuss options.

I offer a free maternity shoot with newborn bookings, and I invite all mums to make the most of that.

Following the initial enquiry I will send you more information and we will schedule a phone call to discuss.

To book a session fee of £50 is required to reserve a slot.

I will send you notes on how to prepare but generally for newborns, I would recommend that the baby is fully awake and has had some time on the play mat or in a bath before coming for the session.

We will have discussed clothing options on the phone, and for parents I recommend to wear plain or neutral coloured clothes. For the baby you can bring any blankets or soft toys that you love.

I recommend that you feed the baby when you arrive in my studio, so that the baby settles into sleep.

I will take the baby and wrap her in ready for the shoot. I will take a number of photos in different settings and if desired we will end with a few shots of the family.

Once I have finalised a selection of images from the shoot, I will arrange a date and time for you to view the selection and chose your final images.

At the same time I will place the order and will deliver the final images with the necessary edits to you, 2 weeks after the order is placed. I make the prints available to be collected from my studio.

I hope this was useful and as usual if you’d like to discuss anything, do get in touch and call me on 07934788100 or email photography@shimilimears.com

In terms of price I have more information on my “Maternity and newborns” page but generally clients spend between £250-£500. However I have packages for different budgets and they start for a package with digital and prints from £150 for 3 digital images and 3 prints (in addition to the session fee).
