Interview with founder of “Arting About”, lover of all things art and Social Media Manager, based in Tooting
I came across Rachel Husband, founder of “Arting About”, lover of all things art and Social Media Manager, based in Tooting, on twitter. We were tagged on a few common posts a few times and we exchanged messages and actually got to know a bit more about what each other does. And we actually met in person, outside the world of social media.
Apart from being active on social media we live in the same area, Tooting which is a great place with so much diversity, creativity, a huge variety of places for food and drinks.
As I came to know Rachel a bit more I also discovered that she is a “Digital mum” and I was intrigued. I wanted to ask her a few more questions about that and how being a digital mum works in practice. Over to Rachel.
What are you doing at the moment?
2017 was a big year of change for me. I’m a mum to 2 boys and hadn’t done any paid work for 7 years. I was starting to feel frustrated with my lack of options, so last January I applied for & was accepted onto the Digital Mums ‘Social Media Management’ Course. A substantial part of the 6 month online course was setting up my own local grass roots ‘campaign’ & launching it across 3 platforms. This is how ArtingAbout came to be. When I graduated last September I decided to keep ArtingAbout running because I made some great contacts, I enjoyed running it & ultimately my 1st client came onboard because of it. It’s like my shop window I guess. I can honestly say I haven’t been this happy in my working life since 1999 when I bought a delicatessen in Clapham South. I’m learning all the time, engaging & meeting with new people and working flexibly around family life.
What are your plans for the business for this year?
I’d like to continue to build up the business and help small independent businesses to manage & improve their social media presence. Nowadays I believe it’s an essential part of any business, big or small. Also, the world of social media moves at such a fast pace so I’d like to continue to learn & expand the range of services I can offer.
What would you like to do more of and less off?
I’d like to become more organised (I’m a work in progress!) & manage my time better, and do less faffing!
What motivates you?
My friends & family motivate me all the time with their support, love and belief in me & what I can achieve.
One fact about yourself
That’s a very tricky question! So I’m going to pick something very random and say I have a great love of cheese, tea & 90’s rave music!
When we met with Rachel, I also took the opportunity to take a few shots of her to use for this interview but also for her to use on her online profiles.
I hope you enjoyed this interview with Rachel and that has made you want to learn more about her love for arts or her social media management capabilities.
