It was a great day out at St John’s School, Leatherhead for the Education Choices Magazine Cover Shot.
Cover shot options
On shoots like this we need to be sure before we leave that we have a number of options available for the design of the cover shot.
Everyone involved is looking for the cover shot settings and combination of factors so all eyes are on the photographer and the choices made.
Tight deadlines
The certainty has to be there before we leave the location as usually deadlines are tight and the material is what will be used to create the magazine edition. If we don’t have the cover shot, more work will be created for the designing team and editing for the photographer.
How we got to this cover shot image?
We tried a number of places in the school grounds:
- Standing the students with flowers and plants behind them while conversing
- Walking and shooting from far away
- Walking and shooting closer
- Groups of 5 and groups of 3
- Standing with a different part of the school behind and then sitting down on the grass.
Do we really have the cover shot?
Although the background looked busy at first in this image, when considering options the design and editing team settled for it to be the cover. And I can say that it is a great choice. It depicts the school, the surroundings and the students in a brilliant way, the sun shining helps. It also has something about it that makes you think great quality education in the perfect surroundings and a message that is both aspirational and inviting. I hope you agree!
