Albanian traditional costumes in London, through a photograph.
Photographs say a millon words and so does this one of an Albanian tradition.
If you have not seen these before, these are Albanian traditional costumes which to this day are still worn. In particular at festivals and days of special importance for the Albanian culture.
The Albanian wedding
I also happened to wear a traditional costume at our wedding, a full body, one with large harem trousers, a shirt, a waistcoat and a head piece. My husband wore a waistcoat too and at the wedding we were thrown loads of cash notes (part of the tradition) and my husband "burnt the handkerchief" which symbolises celibacy. If you'd like to read more of the story of my husband and how we met, take a look at this interview I did with the Migrant Woman magazine.

Albanian culture abroad
I particularly like this photograph of these young girls who live in London wearing the traditional costumes as they represent the culture abroad and the fact that the younger generation are still keen to learn about it and discover the different elements.
Many efforts are currently being undertaken by Albanian community groups to keep the country's cultures and values alive. Many of these group organise dancing classes for the younger generation where they get to learn the different types of dance and practice whilst getting to know each other and socialise.
I do attend many of the Albanian community events and I take my camera with me to capture moments such as this.
