A few photos from Fircroft School in Tooting opening a new unit with Sadiq Khan. Having joined-up nursery and reception classes has many benefits and this is what children starting nursery at Fircroft this year will benefit from.
I happened to photograph the opening as a school parent, in September this year and I have to say it was a very emotional event. Hearing from all the teachers, head-teacher and school governors involved and the hard work they put in, did make everyone feel that this is a great place to be.
The Mayor of London is a school governor at our school, something we and the school are very proud of and he is also a former Fircroft Primary School pupil! He visits the school regularly and is a very friendly Mayor.
In the new unit, nursery and reception classes will be in the same space and children can all enjoy learning together during those early years.
This has been a 10-year long project for the school and finalising the project and delivering the new early years unit, is a great achievement for all the staff, parents, governors involved.
Elliot my younger son, who is starting at the nursery this year alongside 40 other children will enjoy the benefits of this new great unit.
In the photos are the Mayor of London and our school head, Ms Wilson; current and former school teachers and governors, the unveiling of the early years unit plaque, Elliot trying out the new nursery toys and activities and members of our amazing PTA!
Fircroft school has a great range of activities organised which are amazing! Following the visit from the Mayor of London, we had the honour of children book writer Michael Rosen visiting the school, meeting the children and signing books.
Fircroft PTA also organises a great number of events for children and parents and everyone is welcome to get involved.
